My father use to love and work with BC Jade, he’s past away now, in memory of him I was able to incorporate a piece of BC Jade into this sculpture.
Light enters the sculpture from the opening and highlights the green of the jade.
Mounted from the ceiling, the porcelain is held by a form that is treated in the Japanese tradition of Yakisugi, wood that is burned on the surface for strength, it’s charcoal colour and texture.
This is called “Kimono”, I was inspired by the shape and folds of beautiful Japanese Kimonos.
Light appears to be held by "Kimono" as it wraps around the interior space. It stands 7 ft tall, and is made from a concrete material.
