Mounted from the ceiling, the porcelain is held by a form that is treated in the Japanese tradition of Yakisugi, wood that is burned on the surface for strength, it’s charcoal colour and texture.
A small piece of BC Jade visually pries open this form to reveal inside. Light appears as if it is coming from inside and highlights the green of the jade.
My father use to love and work with BC Jade, he’s past away now, in memory of him I was able to incorporate a piece of BC Jade into this sculpture.
This is called “Kimono”, I was inspired by the shape and folds of beautiful Japanese Kimonos.
Light appears to be held by "Kimono" as it wraps around the interior space. It stand 7 ft tall, and is made from a concrete material.
